Before starting my sketch I searched around for multiple different blog websites and thought about what aspects I liked about them and which ones I didn’t. Using these aspects from different sites and my own personal ideas I put together a general sketch together of what the main page would look like along with popular, topics and author tabs.
I also landed on the title Ascend Yesterday because I thought it fit with the theme I wanted to go with, improving upon yourself. I came up with the title by starting of think of different words that could mean to improve. Eventually I landed on ascending. Ascend means to go up or climb. I took this in the context of improving yourself which is in line with my theme. I then added yesterday so it says improving yourself from yesterday, or ascending yesterday.
I then went about designing a headstone of sorts for the website. Originally I designed a clear blue sky background with the word ascend on it. With the A being bigger than the rest of the word. Next to it would be a mountain with the world yesterday position parallel to the mountain slope. The next iteration I added clouds to the image because I thought it looked better.
In the third iteration, I scraped the entire thing and instead went for block space with stars and the sun in the background. On the right side would be a spaceship with the words yesterday written vertically on it. I thought the theme of rocket ship flying up and into space followed along with the theme of improving yourself every day.
